The system emulator UTM, which is available for download in a Mac edition as well as an iPhone and iPad edition, was released in version 4 (version 4.0.8 to be precise) and is now available with an interface that is completely in the native language. German translation available.

UTM 4 is a major release and requires at least iOS 14 or macOS 11.3 to be installed. Installation on older systems is no longer possible. If you’re running even older operating systems, you can still install the predecessor UTM 3 on iOS 11 and macOS 11.

Linux and Windows on macOS

Basically, UTM allows to run Windows and Linux virtual machines on the Mac and is itself based on QEMU. The Mac edition is available to download for free on the project page as well as for a supporting $12 from the Mac App Store. However, version 4.0 is not yet available in Apple’s software store, version 3.2.4 is still waiting for you until macOS Ventura is available.

Anyone who manually installs version 4 can use the new file sharing via VirtFS with Linux virtual environments, which allows for the use of shared folders between the host computer and the virtual system and is said to be significantly more efficient than the previous solution.
