Sonos could introduce its first headphones next year. Although the manufacturer has not yet made any concrete announcements about this, it did announce with the publication of the annual accounts for the 2022 financial year that a total of four new product categories are planned.
According to The Verge magazine, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence has announced that at least one of these new territories will launch with a first product within the next year. In addition, the manufacturer will expand its line-up with several new speakers in the coming year.
Even if Sonos is reluctant about this, entry into the headphone segment seems already decided. The rumors that had been circulating since 2019 were substantiated two years ago in a patent, which also contained references to the integration of the now available voice control “Sonos Voice Control”.
High-end headphones are currently expected from Sonos in particular, which can be used wirelessly and should be suitable for premium devices such as the AirPods Pro. In fact, such an extension would certainly not be the worst idea when it comes to expanding the manufacturer’s home audio system.
For a long time, Sonos focused on relatively simple, stationary wireless speakers with multi-room functionality. The manufacturer’s portfolio has now been expanded with various soundbars and subwoofers and the associated home cinema functions and recently wirelessly rechargeable speakers.
It remains completely open what the other product categories mentioned by Spence could be. The only half-concrete rumors apart from the headphones are about a new premium speaker, which is codenamed “Optimo 2” and apparently also wants to set new visual accents.
