The iMazing application is available for Mac and Windows and is more flexible in the latest version when it comes to accessing the data on a connected iOS device. It is often no longer necessary to make a full data backup as was the case before, but you can limit the backup to the size needed for the task at hand.
The new option is also useful if you’re in a hurry or don’t have enough storage space on your Mac or Windows computer. However, this prompt only appears the first time you connect an iOS device to iMazing. Later, the device is usually backed up completely, which means subsequent incremental updates are much faster.
In any case, keep in mind that the fast data access only does this job and it is not a backup copy that can be used to restore the data.
iMazing as a powerful local backup tool
iMazing extensively discusses the pros and cons of the new option in this blog post. The option to choose between fast data access and a full backup appears in the Messages, WhatsApp, Call Log, Voicemail, Safari, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Voice Memos sections.
iMazing 2.16 also offers full support for iOS 16.1 and enhanced support for accessing photos and videos on iOS devices. Videos recorded in HEVC (H.265) can now be converted to MPEG-4 (H.264), and iMazing can now also access photos and videos that are not stored locally on the device but in iCloud.
iMazing is free to download and try. Depending on the number of personal devices, you pay for the full version from 29.99 euros.
