The provider Synology, known for its functional network storage, has released a new 4-bay NS with the DiskStation DS923+, one of the more powerful models in the manufacturer’s portfolio.
The DiskStation DS923+ is powered by an AMD RyzenTM R1600 dual-core, clocking up to 3.1 GHz and flanked by 4 GB of base RAM (DDR4 ECC SODIMM), which is expandable up to 32 GB. As usual, the latest DiskStation models ship without hard drives and can then be equipped with four 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA drives, depending on preference.
The DiskStation DS923+ measures 17 cm x 20 cm x 22 cm and weighs 2.2 kilograms. The new model can be integrated into the home network via two Gigabit RJ-45 ports and there is a USB-A port (3.2 Gen 1) on both the front and back.
Expandable up to new drives
If more storage space is needed over time, the DiskStation DS923+ can be supplemented with the DX517 expansion module to provide five additional slots to accommodate up to nine drives.
The suggested retail price of the DiskStation DS923+ is around $630 (without storage drives) and it is aimed at users who not only want to store large amounts of data, but also want to use the DiskStation to manage surveillance cameras, as a streaming server for their own video content, and to back up their personal data, want to use the photo collection. For those tasks, the good motorization with the AMD RyzenTM R1600 dual-core should ensure that the corresponding tasks are processed relatively quickly.
