Netflix announces first worldwide live broadcast › jojo Reviews

The video streaming service Netflix has announced its first major live event and plans to broadcast it in the spring of 2023.

Comedy instead of sports

It has been suspected for some time that Netflix would focus more on offering live content, but now the streaming provider has become a bit more specific for the first time. There is a downer for all sports fans who bet on the broadcast of a sports event or a live meeting.

Instead, Netflix will air a live comedy special starring comedian Chris Rock, who is best known in the United States. Chris Rock already produced the comedy special “Tamborin” for the streaming platform at the beginning of 2018 and was liked by many subscription customers. Now the 1965-born South Carolina rocker is busy preparing for a second show.

This will be broadcast live worldwide as a so-called “Global Streaming Comedy Event”, making history for Netflix.

Netflix has had good experiences with comedy content in recent years. Most recently, the video streaming service hosted the multi-day Netflix is a Joke festival, which sold more than a quarter of a million tickets. As part of the nearly two-week festival, 35 stages in Los Angeles were used, on which more than 300 comedians performed.

Controversy with Dave Chappelle

Netflix’s comedy show has also been riddled with controversy lately. After a performance by comedian Dave Chappelle, the streaming provider was confronted with sharp criticism for its program content. He even caused protests among Netflix staff with anti-transgender statements in his comedy special.
