Meross is now also starting to sell its built-in switch with HomeKit support in Germany. The WLAN module for wall mounting can be pre-ordered for 22 euros and will be delivered this month.
First of all, it should be pointed out once again that the built-in module has been available directly in the manufacturer’s online shop for some time and is also cheaper. The shipment will then take place from abroad, but there are currently no costs involved.
Neutral required for installation
It should be noted that the Meross WLAN relay is not a complete switch, but merely a module for installation in a flush-mounted box, which allows the integration of classic light switches into smart home environments. The power circuit is no longer completely interrupted by pressing the switch, but alternatively there is still the possibility to control the corresponding lamp from your smartphone or with the help of a language assistant. The Meross built-in module is connected to the network via 2.4 GHz WiFi and is compatible with HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
However, it is very important to mention in this context that a neutral is a mandatory condition for the installation of the Meross relay. Otherwise, the accessory has no function. It is generally impossible to tell whether the neutral is present, even in new home installations. Either this can be seen from the wiring or your electrician will know. Meross calls the maximum power of the module 400 watts. For regular light switches, this should be more than enough. The size is estimated at 5 x 4.6 x 1.9 centimeters. The power cables are secured in the terminals with Phillips screws.
Those looking for an alternative to installation without neutral can take a look at the Aqara T1 built-in module. However, a smart home hub from the manufacturer is also required here.
