HP all-in-one owners are again reporting scanning issues on macOS Monterey. We have already experienced something similar with macOS Big Sur. Documents captured using HP’s Easy Scan Mac application are saved as blank, white pages only. However, the software’s preview and scan windows display the correct images.
So far, it’s unclear if the error is due to Apple or HP. However, it seems that the latter option is the case. HP has not updated its Easy Scan application for the Mac in two years, the last optimization coming in November 2020 for macOS 10.15 Catalina.
Onboard resources or another app as a workaround
Several workarounds are currently available to owners of affected HP devices. On the one hand, users report that their combination devices that do not work with HP Easy Scan work flawlessly with the HP Smart for Desktop software also offered by the manufacturer. Alternatively, the scanners should also be able to be used as scanners directly via the standard macOS drivers. Here you can either access the printer directly through the Spotlight search or, as shown above, open the system settings “Printers & Scanners” and from there select the “Open Scanner…” option or the little scanner icon at the top right of the screen. the printer selection window.
The operating system then provides you with a simple scanning application that can be used to capture and save documents placed on it. In connection with this, different scan specifications can be selected in advanced mode (click on the “Show details” button): for example, as an alternative to the usual color or black and white scans, there is also a text option; you can set the desired resolution, define sections or rotate and crop the captured documents. The standard scan function is also pleasantly fast and easy to use.
