The Function Key Pro Mac application implements a very nice idea based on the function keys, which Apple has already assigned twice at the factory.
Already double assigned from factory
When hit individually, they will activate the function printed on them, depending on the Mac model. On the MacBook Air M1, F3 displays the Mission Control window outline, F4 invokes the Spotlight search, and F10 mutes the computer. If the FN key is also pressed, the F keys all act as regular function keys, which can be useful in applications such as the terminal.
The Mac application Function Key Pro now wants to add another function to the row of function keys, which is activated as soon as one of the keys is pressed longer – and longer here means about a second at a time.
Long press for third function
In the basic settings, Function Key Pro suggests launching various applications by long pressing. Long-pressing F1 launches Finder, F2 launches App Store, F3 launches Messages app.
However, these presets can be configured as desired. It is possible to select a different app, a hotkey or one of the function key functions. The Function Key Pro settings screen allows you to quickly configure how Function Key Pro should affect your daily work.
Function Key Pro can be tested without any limitation 14 days after download. Anyone who then likes the menu bar app can purchase the full version for a one-time price of just under $9. Function Key Pro is presented on this product website from the provider Bopsoft and can be downloaded directly from the Internet. The app is 8 megabytes in size.
