ARD Audiothek now also available via the “red button” › jojo Reviews

The ARD Audiothek can now also be used from the TV set. The responsible broadcasters have integrated the audio program into their HbbTV offering. It can be accessed in the same way as the contents of the broadcaster’s other media library. After pressing the red button on the remote control, the audio library is also available here.

The cryptic-looking abbreviation HbbTV stands for “Hybrid Broadcasting Broadband TV”, the “red button” should be known as the launch button for the content of the selected channel’s media library. The new content of the audio library is available in this way if you call up the media library via the first program, all third programs of the ARD and via ARD alpha, ONE and tagesschau24. The function is also supported by all radio stations available via HbbTV.

As a user, you can now also access podcasts and radio live streams from over 60 public radio stations from your television, which were otherwise already available through the audio library app when accessed via the web browser.

ARD advertises the contents of the audio library as a large selection of audio contributions, including radio plays, thrillers, podcasts, comedy, documentaries, reports and knowledge formats. The podcasts are sorted in the audio library by categories or stations, alternatively the content can also be explored using the so-called “discovery mode”.

ARD Mediathek gets new functions

Nevertheless, the audio library app is of course still available for iPhone and iPad users. The ARD Mediathek has now appeared in version 9.0 and, according to the developers, is preparing to introduce new functions. A public beta test has been running here for some time, as part of which users of the application must actively support further development.
