Apple’s entry into direct competition with Facebook parent company Meta’s virtual reality efforts would be just a few months away after years of ongoing speculation.
Pegatron commissioned for production
As DigiTimes reports, citing industry insiders, mass production of the Apple headset could begin as early as the first quarter of next year. The expensive hardware, which is primarily aimed at professional users, early adopters with pain-free price tolerances and developers, should therefore go into mass production as early as March and be assembled in the work of Apple partner Pegatron, who has already received various iPhone orders.
Until recently, many market observers assumed that Apple would debut its mixed reality headset in the current year, not least because Meta also used October to announce the Meta Quest Pro.
setbacks in development
The development of the mixed reality headset is said to have come with several setbacks. In 2017, for example, documented Apple workplace accidents came to light, detailing multiple incidents in which workers’ eyes were damaged during initial testing of new prototypes. jojo Reviews reported at the time:
Apple is expected to sell an expensive version of its mixed reality headset first, which will help build an ecosystem of apps and service offerings. Moments later, there should be a cheaper consumer solution that should market Apple’s vision of a mixed reality headset to the masses.
The headset could be the last major product launch led by Tim Cook.
